How do chemical peels work?
All peels work by gently applying a non-toxic chemical solution to exfoliate sun damaged which then encourages elastin and collagen production as well as increasing cell turnover rates,. Most peels contain one of the following exfoliating ingredients:alpha hydroxy acids (an AHA, such as glycolic acid) or beta hydroxy acids (salicylic acid, also known as BHA Phenq review)
There are light, superficial peels, medium peels and deep peels. Superficial peels offer far less dramatic improvement than medium or deep peels (e.g., TCA-trichloroacetic acid or phenol-based) but the risk of side effects, some of which are severe, is higher with deep peels.
Side effects range from tingling of the skin during the procedure to significant redness and peeling depending on the depth of the peel.
Some patients may experience some itching of the skin/flare of acne in the week after treatment.
