How do dermal fillers work?
As we age we lose ‘fullness’ from our face. If you imagine your face as a balloon as we grow older the balloon gradually deflates. In biological terms ageing thins the upper layer of skin, the epidermis, decreasing its ability to serve as a barrier to retain water. Additionally the major elements of the dermis ( the second layer of the skin) are gradually lost. These elements include elastin, hyaluronic acid and collagen. Collagen is the major protein which supports the skin, while hyaluronic acid assists in adding volume and shape to the skin.
Where can fillers be used?
Dermal Fillers can be used in various parts of the face. The most common areas treated tend to be the nose to lip area (naso labial folds), cheek, under eye area, the corners of the mouth (marionette lines) and the lips. They can also be used for the frown line in conjunction with Botox.
How quickly can you see results? How long do they last?
Results can be seen immediately. They can last between 12-18 months but on the lips they tend to last around 6 months.
Are they painful?
The treatments can be painful if no anaesthetic is used. At myskindesign we always use a numbing cream which is applied around 20 mins prior to having dermal filler treatment. All our dermal fillers also have anaesthetic within them which helps keep any discomfort to a minimum.
Are they safe?
At Myskindesign we only use temporary fillers (Perlane, Restylane and Juvéderm) which are based on mifarmacia24.com hyalauronic acid. Temporary fillers have a much safer side effect profile than semi-permanent/permanent fillers because they are gradually degraded in the skin which is why we prefer to use them in our clinic.
Side effects most commonly include redness, swelling, bruising, allergic reactions, lumps under the skin and ulceration in the injected areas. Before having any type of treatment a fully informed consent process is undertaken where all the risks and benefits are explained and any questions are answered. Some clients are happy to have treatment at their first consultation whereas others prefer to take the information away and have a think about things which we are always happy with.
